Yesterday, I ran an impromptu poetry workshop with people who couldn’t really say no. The exercise was a list of five monsters and mythical creatures and a list of five daily tasks.

Here are some possible prompts taken from those lists:

• Medusa washing her “hair”

• Cyclops getting an eye exam

• Minotaur stuck in traffic

• Grendel eating a midnight snack

• Siren talking to a telemarketer

• A Fury filling out tax forms

• Centaur buying apples at a farmer’s market

• Office poltergeist shredding receipts

• Big Foot taking pet to the groomers

• Demons sharing work gossip
